Ai-Ais Resort
Ai-Ais, which means "burning water" in one of the local languages, refers to the sulphurous hot springs which are found in this area. One of these hot springs has its eye within Ai Ais camp.
The main attraction at Ai Ais Resort is the spa complex. The extreme heat of the springs date back to 1850 when they were discovered by a Nama herder searching for his lost sheep.
The sides of the Fish River canyon tower above giving a dramatic setting for the Ai Ais Camping Site. The camp sites are located along the edge of the riverbed and close to the Ai Ais hotsprings.
If you are camping at the Ai Ais resort you are most welcome to use the facilities on offer at Ai Ais lodge, these include indoor and outdoor swimming pools, spa massage centre, restaurant, bar, garage and small shop.
Ai Ai campsites are equipped with power points and braai (BBQ) areas and have shared ablution blocks with shower and toilets.
All the mountain view rooms have an en-suite bathroom and are equipped with a tea / coffee station and air conditioning. Breakfast is included in all Mountain View Room bookings which is served at the Ai-Ais Restaurant.
Mountain view rooms at Ai-Ais can accommodate two (2) adults, in addition up to two (2) young children may be accommodated on a sofa bed or additional mattress in the same room as adults for a discounted rate where space allows.
There are twelve (12) river view rooms at Ai-Ais Rest camp. The river view rooms are all en-suite with a bath and are equipped with air conditioning, an outside shower and a tea / coffee station.
All river view rooms have a view out over the Fish River which only flows in the months after the heavy rain each year. Breakfast is included in all river view room bookings which is served at the Ai-Ais Restaurant.
These rooms can accommodate up to two (2) adults, and subject to availability two (2) young children may share the same room on a sofa bed or additional mattress.
There are seven (7) Family Bush Chalets at Ai-Ais Resort (previously known as premier chalets). The Ai-Ais Bush Chalets are perfect for families or groups looking for self-catering accommodation near Ai Ais.
The Family Bush Chalets at Ai-Ais offer self-catering accommodation close to the Fish River Canyon, the kitchen in each chalet is equipped with a 2-plate stove, kettle, fridge, cutlery, pots and a microwave oven.
Bush chalets have an en-suite bathroom, tea / coffee station and air conditioning. The Ai-Ais family bush chalets have both a river view and a mountain view with a veranda on opposite sides of the bungalow. Please note the minimum occupancy of the Bush Chalets is 3 adults.
